Sexual assault and sexual harassment is a serious issue effecting students (and staff) at universities across Australia. This training focuses on sexual misconduct prevention and response, equipping participants with the foundational knowledge to be active in prevention and support students and colleagues who may disclose experiences of sexual assault and/or sexual harassment. Key topics covered by this training include primary prevention and culture change, different forms of sexual assault and harassment, consent, being an ethical bystander, the neurobiology of trauma, trauma-informed response to disclosures, ensuring professional boundaries and mitigating safety and risk. Participants will learn about reporting and support options, both within UQ and external, for staff and students.
Sexual misconduct training is a sensitive subject that requires participants to engage with compassion, discretion and respect. We appreciate that not everyone will feel comfortable participating in such training and would encourage you to reflect personally before choosing to engage.
This course will enable participants to develop an understanding of:
1. UQ’s approach to prevention and management of disclosures of sexual misconduct;
2. Trauma informed approaches to disclosure and survivor centric support options
3. The importance of the ethical bystander, and how to play a proactive role in ensuring that the UQ community is a safe and supportive environment.
To meet the University of Queensland’s commitment to prevention and response to sexual misconduct. The university has agreed in full to the Australian Human Rights Commission report recommendations and Universities Australia guidelines, which both instruct universities to educate staff on prevention and response to sexual misconduct.
Courses running via Zoom: the course coordinator listed against this course will email the Zoom link a day or two prior to course commencement.
