This session follows on from the Staff Disability Inclusion Masterclass, and assists academic and professional staff to further develop their understanding and practice in working with students with diverse needs and backgrounds. There is a particular focus on students with physical or mental health conditions, learning disabilities and students who are carers of a person with a disability, but other areas of inclusion will be discussed.
The session will cover the role of Student Services and how they can assist you and the students you work with, in addition to strategies on how to support students with diverse needs and backgrounds, whilst maintaining the integrity of your instruction and professional work.
This course will enable participants to:
• Understand academic adjustments in the UQ context;
• Develop an understanding on how to support students with health conditions;
• Incorporate disability, diversity and inclusive practices in the classroom and/or in decision-making processes; and
• Ask questions and receive information about working with people with diverse needs.
Previous course titles: Health/disability support for students & Supporting Students with a Disability.
