Labs at UQ must store large quantities of chemicals to meet both teaching and research needs, while ensuring legislative compliance, safety and acceptable efficiency.
The course will look at overlying principals of lab storage as well as legislative requirements and local UQ rules to manage chemical storage. The information will cover chemicals, compressed gases and cryogenic liquids. The new globally harmonised system (GHS) system for the classification of chemicals will be discussed, as will the placarding requirements of chemical storage areas.
This course will enable participants to:
1. Store chemicals safely and comply with hazardous chemicals legislation
2. Better understand DG and GHS labelling and warning hazard/risk/health statements used by each classification system.
