Provide First Aid (HLTAID003), is a nationally accredited training course endorsed by the Australian Skills Quality authority. It provides participants with the skills to administer First Aid in the workplace and other situations.

The course requires 1 day of self-directed theory (completion of a workbook and assessment) and 1 day of practical classroom activities.

This course will include the following competencies:
- How to manage an emergency situation
- The basic structure of the human body - Management of severe illness
- Practical treatment of burns, bites, stings, poisoning and internal injuries
- First aid management of broken bones, bleeding, eye injuries and hypothermia
- First aid management for head, abdominal and chest injuries
- Recognition of anaphylaxis and use of Epi-pen.

This training also incorporates the competency licence for Provide CPR (HLTAID001).

Provide First Aid training licence (HLTAID300) is valid for 3 years. Provide CPR (HLTAID001) is valid for 1 year. First Aid Officers must renew CPR training on an annual basis. This course is funded by the University Staff Development Program. Please note that preference for places on this course will be given to UQ Nominated First Aid Officers, appointed in accordance with PPL 5.50.11- Appointment of First Aid Officers.

A UQ Nominated First Aid Officer is a member of staff who is a first aider and has been nominated by Head of School or Section to receive a fortnightly allowance payment for performing the role of First Aid Officer for a specified University workplace. See section 9 of the UQ PPL 2.60.20 First Aid Guideline for further clarification.

For course registration please download an 'Expression of Interest' Form by selecting 'register' via the blue button above. Forward completed applications to the OHS Division at least one week prior to course commencement. The OHS Division will advise you if your application has been successful.
